Handicap betting is applied to the actual outcome of a certain game to grade the bet.
1×2 Betting
This system, also known as Three-Way Betting, involves betting on the result in a match with three possible outcomes, these being home win, away win, and draw.
The term “1X2” refers to betting on (1) home win, (X) draw, and (2) away win.
Many bookmakers will offer this market on any team sport which has the possible outcomes of a home win, away win, or draw.
Football is the obvious, and most popular, sport which uses the 1X2 betting market, but it’s not the only one. Sports such as cricket, rugby, and even hockey are becoming increasingly popular among punters who use 1X2 betting.
Over/Under Betting
Over/Under or O/U bet, or Total Wagers, is a type of betting system that is based on the total goals of the game. This system is available for most major professional sports such as football, basketball, baseball, and hockey.
Each sportbookie predicts the number in a given game (combined score of both teams) and, when wagering on a total, the bettor simply chooses whether the total number of points scored by both teams will be over or under the listed total of points to be scored. That’s it. The winner and loser of the game don’t matter in a totals bet. The only thing that matters with this kind of bet is the number of points (runs, goals, etc.) scored.
Halftime/Fulltime Betting
Half Time/Full Time Betting involves betting on which team will be ahead at half time and which team will be ahead at full time. It doesn’t matter either the lead is at the away, draw, or home team. With more outcomes than regular 1X2 betting, this market features plenty of great odds.
Let’s explain what this means.
For both half time and full time, there are three outcomes each: the Home team can be leading, the Away team can be leading, or the teams can be drawed. As a result, the Half Time/Full Time market has nine different possibilities:
The Home team leads at half time and the Home team leads at full time
The Home team leads at half time and the Away team leads at full time
The Home team leads at half time and the match is a draw at full time
The Away team leads at half time and the Home team leads at full time
The Away team leads at half time and the Away team leads at full time
The Away team leads at half time and the match is a draw at full time
The match is a draw at half time and the Home team leads at full time
The match is a draw at half time and the Away team leads at full time
The match is a draw at half time and the match is a draw at full time
Because there are nine outcomes in Half Time/Full Time betting, instead of the three outcomes in 1X2 or match odds betting (Home win, Away win, or draw), the odds are much higher. This means that while there’s greater risk, there’s also greater reward.
