You choose which team you think will win, but the draw gives you some protection.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s say you back Team A:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Team A \u2013 Draw No Bet @ 1.80<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You bet \u20ac20. There are three possible results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Team A wins: your bet wins.<\/li>\n<li>The match is a draw: your \u20ac20 stake is returned.<\/li>\n<li>Team B wins: your bet loses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So you&#8217;re still picking a team to win. This time, you don&#8217;t have to choose Team A or Team B. You can simply lay the draw.<\/p>\n<p>In plain English:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lay the Draw = I think this match will have a winner.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You don&#8217;t care which team wins. You only need the final result not to be a draw.<\/p>\n<p>If Team A wins, your lay bet wins. If Team B wins, your lay bet also wins. If the match ends 0-0, 1-1, 2-2 or any other draw, you lose your liability.<\/p>\n<h3>The Small Difference That Changes the Bet<\/h3>\n<p>This is where people can mix up the two bets.<\/p>\n<p>With Draw No Bet, you&#8217;re saying: \u201cI think Team A will win, but give me my stake back if it&#8217;s a draw.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With Lay the Draw, you&#8217;re saying: \u201cI don&#8217;t care who wins. Just give me a winner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That difference matters. Imagine Team B wins 2-1. Your Team A Draw No Bet loses. Your Lay the Draw wins.<\/p>\n<p>Same match. Same opinion that a draw might not happen. Very different result for your bet.<\/p>\n<h2>Draw No Bet vs Lay the Draw: A Practical Example<\/h2>\n<p>Let&#8217;s put some numbers on it. Team A is playing Team B and you think Team A looks stronger. At the same time, both teams need the three points, so you don&#8217;t expect them to settle for a draw.<\/p>\n<p>You have two possible bets:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Bookmaker: Back Team A Draw No Bet @ 1.80 with \u20ac20.<\/li>\n<li>Exchange: Lay the Draw @ 3.50 with a \u20ac20 lay stake.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>With the bookmaker bet, Team A needs to win for you to make a profit. A draw returns your stake and a Team B win loses the bet.<\/p>\n<p>The exchange position works differently. At lay odds of 3.50, your liability is:<\/p>\n<p><strong>(3.50 &#8211; 1) \u00d7 \u20ac20 = \u20ac50<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If either team wins, your gross profit is \u20ac20 before any applicable exchange commission. If the match ends in a draw, you lose \u20ac50.<\/p>\n<p>And there is the trade-off. Lay the Draw gives you two winning match results, but you are taking on liability. Draw No Bet only gives you a win if your selected team wins, but a draw doesn&#8217;t cost you the stake.<\/p>\n<h2>When Does Draw No Bet Make More Sense?<\/h2>\n<p>Think about what your actual match opinion is. Maybe you believe Team A is better, but you&#8217;re worried the game could be tight. You don&#8217;t really want to back them at Match Result odds because the draw feels too possible.<\/p>\n<p>Draw No Bet fits that idea well. A bettor might look at it when:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>one team looks stronger but the match still feels close;<\/li>\n<li>the away side is good enough to avoid defeat;<\/li>\n<li>you want to back a team without losing your stake on a draw;<\/li>\n<li>you have a clear opinion about which side is more likely to win.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The key point is that you still need to choose a side.<\/p>\n<h2>When Would a Bettor Lay the Draw Instead?<\/h2>\n<p>Lay the Draw starts with a different opinion. You can have a strong opinion about the draw without having a strong opinion about either team.<\/p>\n<h2>Is Lay the Draw the Exchange Version of Draw No Bet?<\/h2>\n<p>No, and this is probably the most important thing to remember. They can come from a similar thought about the match, but they don&#8217;t give you the same position.<\/p>\n<p>Take the three possible match results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Team A wins: both bets can win if Team A was your Draw No Bet selection.<\/li>\n<li>Draw: Draw No Bet returns your stake; Lay the Draw loses.<\/li>\n<li>Team B wins: Team A Draw No Bet loses; Lay the Draw wins.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So don&#8217;t choose between them just because they sound similar. Ask yourself what you actually believe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do I trust Team A?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Or:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do I simply distrust the draw?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Those are two different bets.<\/p>\n<h2>What Should You Check Before You Lay the Draw?<\/h2>\n<p>Before clicking Lay, check three things:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Your liability: If you lay \u20ac20, that doesn&#8217;t mean you&#8217;re risking \u20ac20. Your real risk depends on the lay odds.<\/li>\n<li>The available money: Exchange odds only matter if there is enough money there to match your bet.<\/li>\n<li>Your actual match opinion: Don&#8217;t lay the draw just because you can&#8217;t pick a winner. \u201cI don&#8217;t know who wins\u201d and \u201cI don&#8217;t think it will be a draw\u201d are not the same thing.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That third point is easy to forget. Sometimes not having a view on the winner simply means you don&#8217;t have a bet.<\/p>\n<h2>Two Bets for Two Different Match Opinions<\/h2>\n<p>In sports betting, there are plenty of bets types available around the Match Result market, but the name of the market matters less than the idea behind your bet.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re thinking: \u201cTeam A should win, but I want some cover if they draw,\u201d Draw No Bet makes sense as a way to express that opinion.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re thinking: \u201cEither of these teams can win. I just don&#8217;t fancy the draw,\u201d Lay the Draw expresses a different opinion.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the real difference between the bookmaker and exchange options. One asks you to choose a team. The other lets you oppose one of the three possible match results.<\/p>\n<h2>FAQ<\/h2>\n<h3>I laid the draw and the home team scored. Have I won?<\/h3>\n<p>No. The match can still finish as a draw. Your position stays open until the market is settled unless you take another position before then.<\/p>\n<h3>Why did my Lay the Draw liability suddenly look so big?<\/h3>\n<p>Check the lay odds. The higher the odds, the more liability you take on for the same lay stake.<\/p>\n<h3>Can I back the draw later after laying it?<\/h3>\n<p>Yes, if the market is still open and there is money available to match your bet. Some bettors use a back bet on the draw to change or close their earlier position after the odds move.<\/p>\n<h3>What happens to Draw No Bet if the match finishes 0-0?<\/h3>\n<p>The same thing as any other draw. Your bookmaker returns your stake. It doesn&#8217;t matter whether the final score is 0-0, 1-1 or 2-2.<\/p>\n<h3>I think the favourite will probably win.
